Greenhouse Gas Emissions
In 2023, the City of Peekskill produced an inventory of local government greenhouse gas emissions from the year 2019. This inventory was produced with assistance from the Hudson Valley Regional Council and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.

Climate Action Plan
Based on the results of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, the Peekskill Climate Smart team drafted a City of Peekskill Local Government Operations Climate Action Plan (GOCAP). The purpose of this plan is to guide Peekskill’s sustainable development over the next decade, and provide a path to reduce Peekskill’s emissions to 33% below 2019 levels by 2030, per the New York State CLCPA guidelines. The Common Council adopted the GOCAP in 2024.

Climate Action Planning - Adaptation
In 2024, Peekskill completed a 12-month program hosted by the Hudson Valley Regional Council focused on climate vulnerability, adaptation and resilience called CAPI Adapt. As part of this effort, Peekskill will produce two reports:
1) Climate Vulnerability Assessment A summary of the City’s environmental, infrastructural, and social vulnerabilities to the effects of climate change
2) Climate Adaptation Plan A plan, based on the results of the Climate Vulnerability Assessment, which will create strategies for increasing the City’s resilience to the effects of climate change
Input on these plans is crucial to their quality and usefulness. Any interested in learning more about this work, getting involved, or providing feedback, please email Peekskill's Sustainability Coordinator at coordinator@ceepartnership.org.
